Annakate’s First Beach Experience

Give me a high 5 if you are a big fan of beaches. Ever since I moved to America I have only visited one beach so far, which is Atlantic City Beach. Even so, the trip to Atlantic City was not really a vacation but more of a day to decompress after helping a friend to move to Philly two years ago.

Having said that, I was wondering why I failed to make more beach trips since I love the sand and water. Somehow we managed to visit big cities like NYC, Philadelphia, Boston, and Buffalo (Niagara Falls) before we had Annakate. We even drove down to Orlando in Florida when Annakate was only a mere 4-month old baby.

Fast forward many months later, I began to realize that Annakate was about to turn two and we have not liberated her with a beach trip. With the house DIY projects stacking up one by one, I convinced myself that a beach trip is more than compulsory, especially when a family picture at the beach would be a to-die-for item in the family room’s wall gallery.

Since the month of August, I have been religiously checking the weather at Yorktown Beach and hoping that it would not rain on weekends. It was a challenge in summer, of course. It’s either sunshine or scattered thunderstorms. We just had to press our luck by hoping there would be a good sunny Saturday.

We decided on a one-day trip to the beach the night before because of the unpredictable weather forecast. We were excited about it because it was Annakate’s first beach experience. Not only did I want to fill up my wall with some summer beach photos but we also wanted to see how Annakate would behave and act at the beach. Guess what? After a solid two hours of water splashing and sandcastle building, she almost threw a fit because she did not want to leave as told. That explains her love for the beach, right?

I am not going to type more as I know some of my friends and family abroad are eagerly anticipating for the beach pics.

Here you go, some of the best pictures taken on Manual mode, f3.5, ISO auto with my Nikon D3200 and the 18-55mm lens:

I am still very critical of the pictures I have taken. Please forgive me as I’m still an amateur with a DSLR. As much as I would love to snap shots like a professional, I convinced myself that practice makes perfect. However, if you are filled with such photography knowledge, please feel free to leave any comments on how I can get picturesque shots.

Till then, see you at the next entry.
